The album represents the fulfilment of a decades-long dream for the piano maestro who has graced the bands of Dizzy Gillespie, Yusef Lateef and Stan Getz as well as leading his much-acclaimed trio.
Joined by acclaimed bassist Kanoa Mendenhall, powerhouse drummer Gregory Hutchinson, and rising vocal talent Tyreek McDole - a standout voice from the album - Barron presents a set that blends vocal interpretation with the intimacy of his celebrated trio.
When asked why he decided to venture into this new direction at this point in his outstanding career, the 82-year-old Barron joked: “Because I’m getting old. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. This project had been running through my head for more than three decades. So, I decided that this would be the perfect time.”
Expect a seamless blend of lyrical sophistication, harmonic depth and rhythmic vitality from a true jazz master.
